autodesk mudbox 2022
Autodesk has released Mudbox 2022, the latest update to its digital sculpting software. It adds a new Windows installer.
Too minor an update even to have any documentation
Mudbox 2022 shipped alongside Autodesk’s annual updates to its other DCC applications: 3ds Max 2022, Maya 2022 and MotionBuilder 2022.
However, unlike them, it doesn’t add any new features: the only change listed in the online documentation is a new Windows installer. There isn’t even a list of bugfixes.
We asked Autodesk for more details and were told: “Mudbox 2022 is a minor release, and further documentation is not available.”
Only two new named features in almost two years
For Mudbox users, it’s the third minor release in a row, although Mudbox 2019.1 did at least improve UI scaling on 4K displays, and Mudbox 2020 added a ‘Send to Flame’ option.
That’s an even slower pace of development than the releases prior to Autodesk’s decision to “reinvest” in the software in 2017.
While that decision resulted in a couple of major updates – notably Mudbox 2018.2, with its new dynamic tessellation system – work now seems to have stopped again.
